2009 Nissan GT-R Premium, R35
The first year R35, offered with its own ECU log published
Overview
Compiled by Kept from the seller's intake answers, the documents supplied and published records for the model. The seller does not write or edit this section, and nobody from Kept has inspected the car.
This 2009 Nissan GT-R Premium is finished in Gun Metallic over black and is offered from Kyalami by , its second owner and the keeper of the car for eleven years. It is a first year R35 with the 3.8 litre VR38DETT and the rear mounted six speed dual clutch, and it shows 74,200km.
The lot is unusual in what it publishes. The GT-R records its own use, and the ECU and TCM data were pulled and printed during the pre-sale service in June and are in the document gallery. The printout shows 41 launch control activations, two over-rev events both in zone 4, dated 2016 and 2019, and the stored fault history. The seller published it in full rather than summarising it, which is the reason a bidder can read this car's history rather than take a description of it.
The map history is documented alongside it. A stage 1 map was fitted by a Johannesburg tuner in April 2016 at 41,600km and the ECU was returned to a factory map in September 2023 at 69,400km, both invoiced. The mechanical file covers the items this car is known for: turbo inlet pipes, coolant hoses and thermostat in 2018, the transfer case actuator and solenoid with all four wheel bearings in 2021, and transmission fluid and filter at four separate services including the pre-sale one.
The flaws the seller states are the launch and over-rev record above, original clutch packs at 74,200km with a rebuild as a known future cost, a stone chipped front bumper and bonnet edge that has never been resprayed, and front discs that have lipped and are near the end of their life. Every question put at intake was answered. Nothing was declined.
Model background
The R35 arrived in 2007 and ended the argument. A 3.8 litre twin turbo V6, a rear mounted dual clutch gearbox, four wheel drive and a set of lap times that embarrassed cars costing four times as much. It was assembled in a clean room in Tochigi by a small number of named technicians, each engine hand built and plaqued, and Nissan sold it as an engineering statement rather than a luxury one.
The first year cars carry a specific piece of history. Nissan fitted launch control and then took the position that using it voided the drivetrain warranty, because the transmissions were failing under it, and the car logs every activation. That log is still there fifteen years later, and it is the closest thing in the used performance market to a machine written service history that the seller cannot edit.
It matters more here than in most markets. South Africa has no national vehicle history record, so provenance normally rests on NATIS, stamps and invoices, all of which are documents a person writes. A GT-R log is written by the car. A bidder who reads one is reading evidence of a kind that almost nothing else on this site can offer, which is why publishing it is worth more than any adjective in a description.

Seller interview
Before the car went live, the seller answered a standard set of questions plus a set our tools generated for this model from its documented failure modes. The full transcript is public, including anything they declined.
11 of 11 answered. A high score means the seller told you more, not that the car is better.
Inferred from the seller's answers and this model's known failure points. Nobody from Kept has inspected this car.

Note from the seller
The seller's own words, published as written. The only copy on this page they control.
I bought this in 2014 with 29,300km from the first owner in Bedfordview. It has been to Kyalami track days perhaps fifteen times over eleven years, always on the standard car, never in a race, and it has done Johannesburg to Cape Town four times.
I published the log because it was going to be pulled by somebody anyway and I would rather it came from me. 41 launches over sixteen years is not a hard life for one of these and I am not going to pretend it is zero. The two over-revs are in zone 4, which is the lowest of the severity bands, one in 2016 and one in 2019, and I remember the 2019 one because it was a missed downshift at Turn 2.
The things to budget for: the clutch packs are original and they are not going to last forever, the front discs have lipped and are close to done, and the front bumper is chipped because I drove it. The car has never been apart, never been damaged, and the map has been back to factory since 2023.
Comments & offers
7 comments · 3 offersI came to this thread to find the lie and the man published the log himself. 41 launches, two over-revs, seven years on a map, all of it dated. The reserve is met and it should be. This is what the rest of you should have to do.
Agreed and I have never claimed otherwise. Mine still bites correctly and the last fluid change was in June, but anyone bidding should assume a gearbox in the next 20,000km rather than hoping for a miracle.
Clutch packs original at 74,200km is the real number to plan around. A rebuild is not far off six figures at a specialist here and it is not an if.
Standard turbos, injectors and fuel pumps throughout, and the map was a conservative pump fuel one, about 1.05 bar. The tuner's sheet is in the documents with the invoice. Nothing has been off the engine in my ownership except the inlet pipes in 2018.
Stage 1 for seven years then back to factory. What was the boost target on the 2016 map, and did the car stay on the standard turbos and injectors throughout?
Two over-revs in zone 4 across sixteen years is nothing. For anyone who does not know the bands, zone 4 is the mild end and zones 1 and 2 are where the engine builders start asking questions. The dates being in the log rather than in a story is the point.
First GT-R I have seen listed anywhere in this country with the log printed rather than described. Every other one says no launch control ever used, which the car itself would disagree with in about half the cases.
