This 2021 Aston Martin DBX is finished in white over tan and is offered from Sandhurst by , its second owner. It carries the 4.0 litre twin turbo V8 and the nine speed automatic, was delivered new through the Johannesburg dealer in June 2021 with the tow pack fitted, and shows 41,800km.

It has been dealer serviced every year of its life without exception, and the invoices for all five services are published. The front brake discs and pads were replaced at 33,200km in 2024, and the most recent service in May applied the outstanding software updates and completed the manufacturer health check. The service plan expired at that service and the expiry date is stated rather than left for a buyer to discover.

The seller was asked at intake to publish the full digital service and diagnostic record that Aston Martin holds on the vehicle. He tried and could not: the manufacturer will release it to a purchaser and not to a seller for publication. That is recorded as a decline because Kept records what was not answered, whatever the reason, and a bidder should understand that the record exists, that it will be available to whoever buys the car, and that nobody in this thread has read it.

The flaws stated are paint protection film lifting at three edges on the nose and front arches, air suspension that takes longer to reach ride height from cold than it used to, front tyres at roughly 3mm, kerb rash on the right rear rim, and a tow bar that has been used for a two horse trailer on an estimated forty trips. The towing is disclosed because it is the sort of use a buyer would want to know about and no document would ever show it.

Model background

Aston Martin built the DBX because the business needed it. Porsche had shown with the Cayenne that an SUV could fund a sports car company, Bentley and Lamborghini had followed, and Aston Martin arrived last in 2020 with a car built at a new plant in St Athan in Wales, using the AMG sourced 4.0 litre twin turbo V8 that also runs in the Vantage and the DB11.

What it is not is a compromise on the chassis side. Air suspension with active anti roll, a 48 volt system, and a body that is far closer to the sports cars in the way it steers than the shape suggests. The market read it as a badge on an SUV and the people who drove it did not.

In this market the argument for one is thin volume and a thin dealer network. Small numbers were delivered here, servicing means the Johannesburg dealer or nothing, and out of plan a service is a manufacturer price rather than an independent one. That makes a complete dealer stamped history the entire case for a used one, and it makes the digital record that sits behind those stamps the document a buyer actually wants.

Seller interview

Before the car went live, the seller answered a standard set of questions plus a set our tools generated for this model from its documented failure modes. The full transcript is public, including anything they declined.

Kept score
8.3/10

9 of 10 answered, 1 declined. A high score means the seller told you more, not that the car is better.

8.1/10medium confidence

Inferred from the seller's answers and this model's known failure points. Nobody from Kept has inspected this car.

1 question the seller declined

  • Will you publish the full digital service and diagnostic record that Aston Martin holds against this VIN?

The dealer stamps show that a service happened. The digital record shows what was found, what was reported and what was done.

Known flaws

The seller's own list of what this car needs money spent on.

  • 01Aston Martin will not release the full digital service and diagnostic record to anyone but the buyer, so the seller could not publish it and the question is recorded as a decline
  • 02Paint protection film on the nose and both front arches has lifted at three edges and has not been replaced
  • 03Air suspension takes longer to reach ride height on a cold morning than it did when the seller bought it
  • 04Front tyres are at roughly 3mm and will need replacing within a year
  • 05Tow bar fitted and used for a two horse trailer, the seller estimates about forty trips
  • 06Kerb rash on the right rear rim

Note from the seller

The seller's own words, published as written. The only copy on this page they control.

I bought this in 2022 from the first owner with 14,700km. It has towed a two horse trailer to shows around Gauteng and the Free State perhaps forty times, and it has done that job better than the vehicle it replaced. I am selling because the horses have gone with my daughter to Cape Town and I do not need it any more.

What I would want to know: the film on the nose is lifting at three edges and needs redoing, the air suspension is slower to come up on a cold morning than it was when I bought it and I have mentioned that at the last two services with nothing found, the front tyres are at about 3mm and the right rear rim is kerbed. The service plan ran out at the May service.

On the digital record: I asked the dealer for it specifically so it could go in this listing, and they will not give it to me to publish. They will give it to whoever buys the car. So the answer at intake was a decline and I would rather it sat there as a decline than have me summarise a document I have not read myself.

Man discloses forty horse box trips nobody asked about and then gets a decline recorded against him for a document the factory will not hand over. Harsh, and correct. The decline is about what the room can read, not about whether he tried.

For the record, the manufacturer refusing to give the digital record to the seller is standard and it is not the seller stonewalling. It is still a hole. Whoever buys this car should pull it on day one and they will be the first person to read it.

Service plan expired in May is the number that moves this. An out of plan DBX service at the Johannesburg dealer is not a small invoice and the next one is due in about a year.

Both mentions are on the dealer invoices in the documents, May 2025 and April 2024, each written up as no fault found. I have left the dealer's wording as it is rather than paraphrase it, and a bidder can read what they wrote.

The air suspension being slower from cold and having been raised at two services with nothing found is worth more than the note suggests. Compressors on these give notice for a long time before they stop.

Disclosing forty towing trips on a car nobody could ever have proved towed anything is the part of this listing that would not exist anywhere else. A tow bar with no history attached is normally read as never used.
